An evening of poignant Lied and moving stories is being organized to commemorate the Estonian Great Escape of 1944. The performance ‘Letters to Home’ or ‘Kirjad Koju’ features narratives from those who lived through wartime turmoil. It highlights memories of refugees, heartfelt letters from young men in trenches, and stories of those taken into captivity. The masterful works of Mahler, Eisler, Butterworth, Somervell, Gurney, Warlock, Poulenc, and a world premiere by Witsenburg connect these evocative stories, creating an emotional experience. ‘Kirjad Koju’ is a collaboration between pianist Johan Randvere and actor Risto Vaidla, promising an unforgettable event.
